When you establish a scholarship, bursary, or award at Holland College, 100 per cent of your contribution goes directly to students. Academic achievement, leadership, program of study, financial need, community service – whatever inspires you, we will work with you to develop criteria that will be meaningful to you, your organization, or your business. Many of our donors are surprised to learn that they can transform a student’s life and establish a scholarship, bursary, or award for as little as $500 a year!
Scholarships are awarded to students based on academic merit but may take other factors into consideration, such as extracurricular involvement, leadership, or nomination by a faculty member. Bursaries are primarily intended for deserving students who demonstrate financial need. Awards are often a combination of many criteria, which may include financial need, academic merit, demonstration of leadership or community involvement.
The establishment of a new scholarship, bursary, or award not only contributes to student success, but it also allows you to honour an individual, family, or organization by naming an award after them. Some of our donors choose to honour someone special, to memorialize a loved one, to celebrate their family name, or to recognize their business or organization.
Gifts of any amount are always appreciated. For those who wish to make a gift in support of student financial aid without the commitment of establishing a named award, there are meaningful options available.
The need for a skilled workforce has never been more prevalent than it is in today’s ever-evolving economy. Holland College continues to work with industry partners to ensure students are prepared to hit the ground running when they graduate. This means it is critical that instructors and students have classrooms and labs that replicate real-world environments, utilize current resources for applied learning, and have the capacity to deliver innovative programming.
Monetary donations and gifts-in-kind in this area are critical to allow us to expand our offerings and to help meet industry needs while ensuring our students are leaders in their chosen profession and ready for what lies ahead. The Holland College Foundation gratefully accepts donations of tools and equipment, machinery, and other resources as gifts-in-kind. While there are many funds you can support at the Holland College Foundation, one of Holland College’s current key priorities is supporting students who are facing food insecurity. It is no secret that food costs have skyrocketed. Every day there are students sitting in our classrooms and walking our halls who worry about their next meal.
The second semester that students are now in is particularly tough for many. Loan payments, rising heating costs, difficulty finding part-time work, and dwindling funds make this an especially critical time for support. The presence of food banks at every Holland College campus is a crucial lifeline for those in need. Ensuring that students don't have to worry about their next meal allows them to concentrate on building a brighter future.
Your support can make a significant difference in the lives of these students. Your gift will help to create a more stable and nurturing environment for learners. Every contribution, big or small, helps ensure that students can focus on their studies and personal growth without the added stress of food insecurity.

In addition to the personal satisfaction you will derive from making a gift, the Holland College Foundation proudly recognizes and celebrates its donors in various ways, and there are tax benefits as well.
In general, individual donors receive federal tax credits equal to 15 per cent of the first $200 given to registered charities in a taxation year and 29 per cent for amounts in excess of $200, up to $200,000. Provincial tax credits also apply, providing a significant combined tax benefit.
