November 17, 2017
The 3-1 Holland Hurricanes will travel to Fredericton, NB this weekend for a pair of games against the University of New Brunswick; UNB has a perfect 4-0 record this season. Both teams have started the season each with four games versus the Acadia Axewomen.
Saturday’s game will begin at 3:30pm with Sunday’s starting at 10:30am; both games will take place at the Aitken Centre on the UNB campus.
The Hurricanes enter the weekend on a three game winning streak after losing their season opener to Acadia in Wolfville, NS. Scores of the Hurricanes games versus Acadia were a 2-1 loss followed by wins of 5-0, 6-0 and 4-2.
UNB was able to defeat Acadia by scores of 5-0, 1-0, 3-0 and 3-2 this season setting up what should be a close pair of games between the ‘Canes and UNB as they battle for first place.
Hurricanes forward Sam Higgins leads the league with nine points (five goals, four assists) while Kara MacDonald of UNB sits in a tie for second with teammate Nathalie Laplante and Hurricanes Jess Redmond with five points.
Mackenzie Koughan (HC) and Kayleigh Robertson (UNB) have been the star goaltenders of the league early this season; both have 2-0 records with both wins being shutouts.
Including this weekend’s two games, the Hurricanes have just four games remaining before the holiday break. They play their next games at home on December 2 and 3, also versus UNB.
The Saturday, December 2 game starts at 7:30pm at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown with Sunday’s game starting at 11:30am at the Credit Union Place in Summerside.
