Hurricanes Weekend Preview - October 11, 2025

By Reegan MacAulay

While Thanksgiving weekend offers a break and a reset for most Holland Hurricanes fall sport clubs, the football team has no time for rest, gearing up this weekend for a big rematch of a previous game.

Here’s what to expect for the Holland Hurricanes in upcoming Atlantic Football League (AFL) action on Saturday, Oct. 11.

Football

Saturday, October 11th - @ Saint John Falcons (6:30 p.m.)

The football Hurricanes look to re-enter the win column after a close loss to the unbeaten UNB Reds (4-0) last Saturday in Fredericton, N.B.

Holland (1-3) will hit the road for the third and final time within the regular season, visiting the Canada Games Stadium in Saint John, N.B., for another major showdown against the winless Saint John Falcons (0-4) on Saturday. This will be a rematch of a game on Sept. 28 in Charlottetown, P.E.I., which served as the Hurricanes’ lone win thus far, 23-7.

The Falcons, currently fourth and last in the standings with 21 PF (points-for) and 159 PA (points-against), seek their first win of the season and some late-season miracles to have a shot at postseason contention. While a win would provisionally tie them with the Hurricanes (66 PF, 105 PA) for the third and final playoff spot, there are still more games to be played after this weekend, and they would need to do some serious work on the field points-wise to stand a chance in any potential future tiebreakers.

Keep an eye on the three AFL Week 4 Saint John Falcons Players of the Week to continue making an impact - Enock Ngoyi (offense), Nate Kinney (defense), and Clayton Mclure (special teams).

As for Holland, they’re chasing after the Dalhousie Tigers (3-1) for home-field advantage for the AFL Championship Semifinals (Oct. 25). While, statistically speaking, it looks unlikely that Holland will be able to steal it, a win this Saturday and another one against UNB the following weekend would give the squad plenty of momentum and confidence as they continue to pursue a fifth AFL championship and their first since 2015.

Multiple Hurricanes players must be paid attention to after recent performances. Rookie quarterback Ben Chomolok was crucial in instigating both of Holland’s touchdowns last weekend, assisting third-year receivers Aaron Mcardle (Kinburn, Ontario) and Keiler Purcell (Mineville, N.S.), with the latter making a one-handed catch en route to his successful run into the endzone.

Recently, Purcell was named one of the three AFL Week 4 Holland Hurricanes Players of the Week, slotting into the offensive category and being joined by rookie defensive line Dominic Blackwood (Bedford, N.S., defense) and rookie running back Mason MacKenzie (Charlottetown, P.E.I., special teams).

Saturday’s game, starting at 6:30 p.m., will be broadcast on PPV (pay-per-view) for $10 at ao.live/falcons. Tune into the football Hurricanes’ X page (@canesmfootball) for live updates.
