Only four Hurricanes teams play this weekend, and on Saturday all are on the road. Football and soccer will look to return to the win column, while baseball is still looking for its first win.
Here’s what's happening this Saturday, Sept. 26, and Sunday, Sept. 27, in the ACAA, AFL and ACBA.
The football team hits the road for the first time this season for a night game in Fredericton against the UNB Reds at 7 p.m.
Both teams have a record of 1-1, with a win against Saint John and a loss against Dalhousie. This game against the Reds could help decide home-field advantage for the playoffs.
Leading the way for the Hurricanes on offence is rookie Makhi Magloir, who was named offensive player of the week again. On defence, rookie Nolan McCallum is coming off being named defensive player of the week. On special teams, look out for fourth-year Aaron McArdle after he was named player of the week in that category.
Women’s soccer heads to Truro on Saturday to take on the Dalhousie AC Rams at 1 p.m. The season hasn’t started the way the Hurricanes have wanted, but this weekend should give them some confidence as the Rams are 0-4 and are at the bottom of the standings.
On Sunday, they are back at home at 4 p.m. as they host the Crandall Chargers, who are second-last in the league at 0-3.
Players to watch for the Hurricanes women’s soccer team are third-year Karissa George, who is coming off a multi-goal weekend, third-year Georgia Doucette, who stabilizes the defence, and third-year goalkeeper Tasha Kowalchuk.
The men’s soccer team faced their first bit of adversity last weekend after losing both games. Now they look to turn it around on Saturday as they also head to Truro to take on the last-place Dalhousie AC Rams at 3:15 p.m. They will likely be without third-year goalkeeper Kole MacWilliams, who suffered a hand injury last weekend.
On Sunday, they are back home at 6:15 p.m. to take on the Crandall Chargers, who sit second-last at 0-3-1.
Players to watch on offence are second-year Hatem Al Masri and Harrison Munro, who both sit at one goal each for the season so far. Fourth-year Colby Munro looks to anchor the defence.
The Hurricanes baseball team is on the road this weekend in Stratford for a doubleheader on Saturday against the UPEI Panthers at Lower MacNeill Field at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. for a rematch of last weekend.
Sitting at 0-8, the ’Canes baseball team is still searching for its first win of the season. They will want to turn it around soon as they host the ACBA playoff tournament in October.
Players to watch are rookie pitcher Seth Hanson, who has scored three runs this season. Rookie first baseman Nolan Hill is also tied for the team lead in runs, but rookie Wil White leads the team in hits with six.
