NOW HIRING - Varsity Rugby Coach – Women’s 7s

Holland College Athletics is seeking a qualified and motivated Varsity Rugby Coach for the Holland Hurricanes Women’s Rugby 7s program. This is a part-time, contract position suited to an individual passionate about student-athlete development and competitive collegiate sport.

Program Overview

The Holland Hurricanes Women’s Rugby 7s team competes in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) Rugby 7s League.

  • The competitive season runs from September to October
  • League play occurs in a tournament format, typically every second Saturday

Position Summary

Reporting to the Athletic Director, the Varsity Rugby Coach is responsible for leading all aspects of the Women’s Rugby 7s program, including recruitment, training, competition, and athlete development. The successful candidate will foster a positive team culture that emphasizes academic success, sportsmanship, and excellence on and off the field.

The coach will be supported by a designated Hurricanes staff liaison who assists with travel logistics, athlete registration, field bookings, and administrative coordination.

Key Responsibilities

Coaching & Athlete Development

  • Recruit and select student-athletes for the Women’s Rugby 7s program
  • Conduct pre-season training camp and lead weekly practices
  • Prepare and coach the team for ACAA competition
  • Teach sport-specific skills using safe and effective training techniques
  • Encourage leadership, teamwork, and personal development among athletes
  • Supervise athletes at all times during team activities

Program Leadership & Conduct

  • Establish and implement the program’s coaching philosophy, skills, and techniques
  • Maintain high standards for athlete performance, behaviour, and sportsmanship
  • Model professional conduct, appropriate attire, and positive leadership
  • Emphasize academic achievement, citizenship, and ethical behaviour

Administration & Compliance

  • Maintain thorough knowledge of ACAA and Holland College athletics policies
  • Implement institutional and league policies and ensure required Quality Forms are completed
  • Attend required meetings and conduct pre-season athlete information sessions
  • Complete reports and administrative paperwork accurately and on time
  • Maintain required athlete records

Operations & Collaboration

  • Communicate effectively with College officials, Athletics Director, and league representatives
  • Interact professionally with game officials and members of the media
  • Assist in training, supervising, and evaluating student support staff
  • Inspect facilities and equipment and ensure safety standards are met
  • Maintain, inventory, store, and care for team equipment
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Athletics Director

Qualifications

  • College diploma or university degree
  • Demonstrated coaching experience (post-secondary or competitive level preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, staff, and administration
  • NCCP Coaching Certification considered an asset

Remuneration and Term

  • Remuneration is based on qualifications, coaching experience, and program commitment
  • Coaches are paid bi-weekly over the duration of the contract
  • Contracts are typically part-time, running from August 1 to March 31
  • Contract renewal is subject to satisfactory performance at the conclusion of the season
