Football

The football team secured a home playoff game this past weekend after a 46-0 blowout win over the Saint John Falcons. The Hurricanes came out physical and fast, running the ball effectively with Mason MacKenzie leading the way. He rushed for two touchdowns on the day. Makhi Magloir continued his MVP season through the air, recording 146 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Greg Sutton also found the end zone on a rush for the Hurricanes.

Holland will turn its attention to the UNB Reds this week, hosting a playoff game for the first time since 2017. The Hurricanes are also looking to win their first playoff game since 2019, when they beat the Dalhousie Tigers to advance to the Moosehead Cup against the UNB Reds. Since then, UNB and Holland have faced each other in the playoffs every year except 2022 and 2023.

Baseball

The baseball team's season concluded this past weekend after it hosted the ACBA playoffs, which the UPEI Panthers won.

The Hurricanes opened the playoffs against the UNB Reds, scoring twice on two singles in the top of the first inning. The game was then postponed because of weather with Holland leading 3-0. When play resumed the next day, the Reds scored seven unanswered runs to take the win.

In the second game, the Hurricanes responded with a 7-5 win over the Acadia Axemen. Holland got on the board first when Matthew Peacock singled in the top of the first. The Axemen retook the lead, but the Hurricanes turned the game around in the second, scoring five runs on five hits to take a 6-3 lead. The biggest play was a double by Drew Watts that drove in two runs.

Peacock earned the win, allowing four hits and five runs over four innings while striking out three and walking eight.

The Hurricanes' final game was against the UPEI Panthers for a spot in the final. Holland held the lead late in the game before falling 4-2. A double by Peacock following a six-pitch at-bat put Holland on the board in the top of the first. The game was tied 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth when a Panther sacrifice hit scored two runs to seal the win.

The Hurricanes finished the season on a positive note, winning their final three regular-season games and earning a playoff win.
