2024-2025 Season Recap | Cross Country Running

The Holland Hurricanes Cross Country Running teams had some strong showings in the 2024 Atlantic Collegiate Athletics Association (ACAA) season.

In the first race of the season, Louisa Lucie-Mackula-Theriault and Katie Astley finished 17th and 18th in the women's event, respectively.  On the men’s side, the Hurricanes placed fourth as a team. Kevin Cotter posted the fastest time out of the `Canes, completing the race in 37:19.3.

In the second run, Shea Carefoot had the fastest time out of the Hurricanes in the women’s event and finished 13th overall. Mackula-Theriault finished in 18th while Astley wasn’t far behind at 20th.  In the men’s race, Holland College tied for third as a team with Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU). Max Lahey had the fastest time out of the `Canes, finishing in 32:52.1.

The third and penultimate event held two races on the women’s side, a 6-km and an 8-km. Carefoot finished 11th overall in the 6-km run and seventh overall in the 8-km individual run ahead of Astley in ninth.  The men finished fifth overall in team results, with Theo Nketsiah being the fastest Hurricane, posting a time of 35:37.6. Nketsiah placed 18th overall, ahead of `Canes runners Brandon Atkinson and Sam Hulan in 24th and 25th.

For the final race of the season, Holland College hosted the ACAA Championships at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park in Brookvale, P.E.I.

While the program did not win either race in front of their home fans, both teams had great performances.

For the women, Shea Carefoot was the highest-finishing individual runner for the `Canes in eighth, with Katie Astley finishing second-highest in 13th, and Louisa Luice-Mackula-Theriault finishing in 22nd.

The men tied for fourth overall in team results with the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC) Rams, with Max Lahey being the highest-finishing Hurricane in 10th, and Theo Nketsiah finishing second-highest in 20th.

Holland College is excited to host the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) National Championship for the 2025 season. The event will be held at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park in Brookvale, P.E.I, in November 2025.
