The Holland Hurricanes travelled to Church Point, Nova Scotia on Saturday for the second Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) cross country running meet of the 2021 season. The event was hosted by the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons.
On the six-kilometer course, Emily Swaine (29:57) would lead the Hurricanes to a ninth-place finish in the field of 27, with Olivia Fogarty (31:20) finishing 14th. The two Hurricanes runners competed as individuals in the race.
The race was won by Kiona Osterlin from the Mount Allison University Mounties in 26:27. The Mounties also won the team competition.
In the men’s race, Jeffrin Benedict was the top Hurricanes runner, finishing eighth with a time of 34:01 on the eight-kilometer course. He was joined by fellow Hurricanes, Abdallah Al Aydy (34:48, 10th), Josiah Wigmore (35:47, 11th), William Wang (37:57, 14th), Seth Doyle (45:23, 21st) and Zachary Ryan (45:31, 22nd).
Sean Finnigan was the winner of the race for the Crandall Chargers in 30:11.
The ‘Canes finished fourth in the team competition, with the Mounties taking the overall victory.
The third meet of the season for the ACAA takes place on October 16 in Moncton, New Brunswick, hosted by the Crandall University Chargers.
