XCR 'Canes capture individual championship in Truro

The Holland Hurricanes traveled to Truro, Nova Scotia on Sunday to compete in the second Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) cross-country running meet of the season, hosted by the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC) Rams.

On the women’s side, Hurricanes runner, Rebecca Levy, secured an individual first place finish in the women’s division in a field of 34 runners; she finished with a time of 27:32 on the six-kilometer course.

This was Levy’s first race of the season with the Hurricanes; she led the team to a third-place finish behind the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics and Dal AC Rams.  The Mount Allison University Mounties finished in fourth followed by the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons on fifth. 

Other Hurricanes women’s runners competing were Teanna Letkeman (8th), Alicia McIsaac (18th), Leslie Adderley (20th) and Marth Day (24th).

On the men’s side, the Hurricanes came up short of securing back-to-back first-place finishes to start the season; they finished in second behind the Dal AC Rams by five points in the standings.

Hurricanes men’s runners were led by Ben Sullivan who finished in second, James Wilmot in ninth, Trent Lambert in 10th, Carter Van De Wiel in 11th, Tristan Rampersad in 13th and Ian McKenna in 24th.

The Mount Allison University Mounties finished third in the event, followed by the Crandall University Chargers and Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons.

The Hurricanes will travel on Saturday, October 19th to their third meet of the season hosted by the MSVU Mystics in Halifax, Nova Scotia at Point Pleasant Park.

The ‘Canes will host the 2019 ACAA Championships on November 2 at the Mark Arendz Provincial Ski Park at Brookvale, PEI.
