VBALL | Recap from Day 3 at the 2019 ACAA Championships

It was a short, but very important, day on Sunday at the 2019 ACAA Volleyball Championships at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement, hosted by the Holland Hurricanes in Charlottetown, PEI.  Just two matches were played but both were for ACAA championship banners.

Match #7 | ACAA Women’s Championship match | (1) MSVU Mystics vs (2) Holland Hurricanes

The MSVU Mystics captured their eighth straight ACAA women’s volleyball championship on Sunday when they defeated the Holland Hurricanes in straight-sets.

Set scores were 25-20, 25-15 and 25-21 in favor of MSVU.

Madison Urquhart (16 kills) and Kenzie Brimicombe (14 digs) were the top performers for the Mystics in the victory.

The Hurricanes top statistical performers were Jasmine Smith (10 kills) and Katie Wood (11 digs).

The MSVU Mystics will now adjust their focus to the CCAA National Championship being held in Welland, Ontario, hosted by the Niagara College Knights.

Players of the game were Janine Marshall (Mystics) and Katie Wood (Hurricanes).

Match #8 | ACAA Men’s Championship match | (1) STU Tommies vs (3) Holland Hurricanes

The Holland Hurricanes prevailed in front of a loud and rowdy crowd at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement on Sunday to become the 2019 ACAA Champions.

The ‘Canes won in the fourth after sets of 22-25, 25-21, 25-21 and 27-25.

Brett Butler (28 kills) and Marcus Lapointe (19 digs) led the Hurricanes in the victory.

The top statistical performers for the Tommies were Christian Christie (19 kills) and Evan VanBuskirk (18 digs).

The Hurricanes will now represent the ACAA conference at the CCAA National Championships being held in Red Deer, Alberta, hosted by the Red Deer Kings.

This is the second ACAA Championship in team history for the men’s volleyball Hurricanes.

The players of the game in the match were Brett Butler (Hurricanes) and Ryan Dickson (Tommies).

The three-day event, hosted by the Holland Hurricanes, was filled with many exciting matches and moments in front of thousands of fans.
