'Canes drop opener to top-ranked Falcons at Nationals

The Holland Hurricanes dropped their opening match at the 2019 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association National Men’s Volleyball Championship in Red Deer, Alberta on Thursday to the Fanshawe College Falcons.  The Falcons (London, Ontario) won the quarter-final match in straight-sets.

Set scores in the match were 25-22, 25-21 and 25-10.

Riley O’Keefe led the Hurricanes offensively with seven kills while Nicholas Menzies, Simon Archibald and Marcus Lapointe were the top defensive players, each with four digs.

Sam Otten (12 kills) and Taylor Jordan (nine digs) were the top performers for the Falcons.

Riley O’Keefe was the Player of the Game for the Hurricanes in the loss.

The ‘Canes will play their next match on Friday at 4pm Atlantic time versus the loser of Thursday’s quarter-final match featuring the Griffons de l’Outaouais (Gatineau, QC) and Keyano Huskies (Fort McMurray, AB).  Friday’s match for the Hurricanes is a bronze medal quarter-final game.
