Chris Druken, of Shea Heights, Newfoundland, has committed to attend Holland College this fall. The 6’2” shooting guard will look to crack the Hurricanes lineup while completing his academic studies in the Sport and Recreation Management program.
Druken has previously played with Waterford Valley High School and on Team Newfoundland provincial teams since the U14 level. In high school, he had taken home Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player and Male Athlete of the Year honors.
“I decided to commit to Holland College to further pursue my education and play with a great basketball team,” he shared. “I am enrolling in the Sport and Recreation Management program as I continue my path towards Physical Education. I’m very excited to play at the next level with the Hurricanes.”
Druken is described as a strong three-point shooter with a high basketball IQ. His positive attitude is a strength both on the court and in the classroom.
“We’re pleased to be adding Chris to our lineup this fall,” shared Hurricanes head coach, Josh Whitty. “As a former provincial team member in Newfoundland, Chris has played at a high level and we expect he’ll be ready to perform in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) this fall.”
The men’s basketball Hurricanes are seven-time ACAA champions (2013-2019) and four-time Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national medalists (2013, 2016, 2017 and 2018). In 2019-20 the team fell in the semi-finals while the 2020-21 season was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Druken is counting down the days until he can step onto the floor of the Holland College McMillan Centre for Community Engagement.
“Our supporters can expect a hard-working and dedicated team that brings positive energy to the floor each and every game.”
