Big weekend ahead for Hurricanes Athletics

It will be a busy weekend for fans of the Hurricanes with seven games scheduled on Saturday and Sunday.  The men’s football ‘Canes will play their home opener on Saturday with the men’s and women’s soccer, and men’s baseball Hurricanes on the road.  The ‘Canes men’s baseball team will then see home action on Sunday in Charlottetown.

Men’s Football

The Hurricanes are set to play their home opener on Saturday versus the Dalhousie University Tigers; the game begins at 6:30pm and has been moved to the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall.

The ‘Canes opened up the season with a 43-8 loss last Sunday on the road to the defending Atlantic Football League (AFL) champions, the University of New Brunswick (UNB) Red Bombers, while the Tigers also earned a win in week one, a decisive 63-0 victory over the University of New Brunswick Saint John (UNBSJ) Seawolves.

Due to the limited number of fans currently permitted to attend games at the Terry Fox Sports Complex, the game is considered sold out due to the high number of Hurricanes football booster club memberships purchased.  The game will be available to watch live at www.hollandhurricanes.com.

Men’s Baseball

The baseball Hurricanes, currently sitting in first in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball Association (ACBA) standings at 7-1, travel to Fredericton, New Brunswick on Saturday to take on the UNB Reds in a double-header; game one is set for 1pm with game two to follow at approximately 3:30pm.

The Reds enter the weekend at 6-2 and in second place.  The ‘Canes won the first two meetings with UNB at home by scores of 6-4 and 8-1.

On Sunday the Hurricanes are back at home at the Memorial Field at Victoria Park in Charlottetown, hosting the Dalhousie Tigers.  The Tigers enter the weekend at 2-6 and in fifth in the conference.  The ‘Canes also took both meetings with the Tigers earlier this year, by scores of 11-4 and 13-0.

Women’s Soccer

After a draw and a loss last weekend, the Hurricanes will look to return to the win column versus the Dalhousie Agricultural Campus (Dal AC) Rams on Saturday in Truro, Nova Scotia.

The ‘Canes enter Saturday in a tie for second in the Atlantic Collegiate Athletic Association (ACAA) standings with a 2-1-1 record alongside the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics, while the Rams are 0-4-0 and in seventh.

Men’s Soccer

The men’s Hurricanes look to continue their momentum on Saturday in Truro versus the Dal AC Rams; they lead the ACAA standings at 3-0-1, while the Rams are 0-4-0 and in a tie for sixth.

This is the first time the men’s and women’s soccer ‘Canes have met the Rams this season.

Both Hurricanes soccer teams were scheduled to take on the Crandall University Chargers on Thursday night in Cornwall, but the game was cancelled due to travel complications in New Brunswick; the game has been rescheduled to Tuesday, September 28 at 6 and 8pm (w/m) at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall.
