CAE Sessional Instructor – CAE-315 Course Development: Designing Learning Experiences

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will bring a strong foundation in post-secondary teaching along with proven expertise in full course development and instructional design. This course focuses on teaching the principles and practices involved in designing, delivering, and assessing effective and inclusive courses. This course is delivered as part of Holland College’s Certificate of Adult Education program (CAE), which is designed for new and emerging adult educators.

The instructor will teach using face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous instructional methods and will model best practices in adult education, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and reflective teaching.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Demonstrate deep knowledge of post-secondary teaching and a strong passion for engaging adult learners in the learning process.
  • Teach all phases of course development, including curriculum design, learning outcomes, lesson planning, assessment strategies, and continuous course improvement.
  • Model effective instructional strategies across face-to-face, synchronous, and asynchronous learning environments.
  • Establish inclusive face to face and distance learning environments that actively engage students in learning.
  • Evaluate and assess learner progress using a variety of formative and summative assessment approaches.
  • Promote learner success by demonstrating flexibility in instructional delivery and assessment methods.
  • Prepare engaging lessons that exemplify principles of adult education, reflective practice, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Adhere to Holland College best practices for instructional development, delivery, and assessment.
  • Develop, review, and maintain course materials within the learning management system (SAM).
  • Perform other instructor-related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master of Education required, preferably with a focus on post-secondary teaching practices, curriculum development, or instructional design. 
  • Minimum of five (5) years of recent, continuous teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching, mentoring, or training educators.
  • Demonstrated expertise in course development from initial design through delivery, assessment, evaluation, and revision.
  • Significant experience with distance education as well as face-to-face instruction.
  • Strong proficiency with learning management systems (Brightspace preferred), Microsoft Office, and digital content creation and management.
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Superior communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

Salary:
