Instructor - Journalism and Communications

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Program Manager of Arts, Media & Community Studies, the successful applicant will ensure the successful delivery of the Journalism and Communications program by delivering a high quality (ISO Certified) program and creating a positive teaching and learning environment.

  • Assist learners in the development of required curriculum outcomes through such activities as individual and group instruction, self-directed learning, and performance assessments.
  • Deliver excellence in learning-centered instruction by establishing classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes and student success.
  • Promote student success by showing flexibility in style and work schedule as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching students and engaging students in the learning process.
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Develop, review and update learning materials, using an online based learning management system (SAM).
  • Liaising with industry to promote student learning and program relevancy.
  • Comply with OH&S regulations.
  • Counsel learners regarding occupational goals.
  • Participate in program development and planning activities.
  • Secure, monitor and evaluate on-the-job training sites.
  • Perform other learning manager related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism or Diploma in Journalism with a minimum of five years working in the field.
  • Experience in the following areas: broadcast journalism as a reporter/producer/editor; training/mentoring new journalists; social media; tools of storytelling; communications.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication, organizational and presentation skills are essential.
  • Certificate in Adult Education and/or prior teaching experience with adult learners in an educational setting will be considered assets.

Employment requirements

  • The successful candidate will be expected to show proof of credentials.
  • As a condition of employment, Faculty must complete a two-year (part-time) Certificate in Adult Education program. To achieve continuing status; all probationary, full or part-time Faculty must successfully complete the program within their probationary period.

Classification:

Learning Manager (as per Schedule A of the Faculty Agreement between Faculty of Holland College and Instructional Staff of Atlantic Tourism and Hospitality Inc. and the PEI Union of Public Sector Employees.)

Salary:

$40.21 to $59.46/hr (20 hrs/wk).
