College to offer Online Refrigeration Training

Holland College Marine Training Centre is now offering new online training for individuals interested in obtaining their Power Engineer, Class B Refrigeration License.

The training consists of three self-paced online courses and a four-week on-the-job training session. Students who successfully complete all components will earn their Holland College Industrial Refrigeration Operations Certificate, which qualifies them to write the PEI Provincial Exam for a Power Engineer, Class B Refrigeration License.

Ozan Dermen, Director of the Marine Training Centre, says the training is designed to help learners upgrade their skills, regardless of their level of refrigeration knowledge.

“Our new online training package allows learners to study at their own pace and builds the skills required for work as an industrial refrigeration operator,” says Dermen. “The on-the-job training provides real-world experience, allowing learners to troubleshoot and repair a variety of equipment under the guidance of industry experts.”

The courses comprising the training package can also be taken individually by licensed power engineers who want to refresh their knowledge of refrigeration. Participants will earn a Holland College training certificate for each course they complete.

College President & CEO Dr. Alexander (Sandy) MacDonald says accessible training is essential for maintaining a strong provincial workforce.

“We’re committed to offering training that meets industry needs and supports lifelong learning. By offering flexible options, we’re making it easier for Islanders to gain the skills and credentials for great careers,” says MacDonald.

Information about the new Industrial Refrigeration training, including the tuition cost and individual course descriptions, is available on the college website.
