AOTW | Nevaeh O’Connell & Vashon Ford Named Hurricanes Athletes of the Week

Women’s basketball player Nevaeh O’Connell and men’s basketball player Vashon Ford have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 11, 2026.

O’Connell, a second-year guard from Beechville, N.S., had one of her best performances of the season this past weekend, helping her team open the second half with an 85-48 win over the Crandall University Chargers on Saturday, Jan. 10, in Moncton, N.B.

O’Connell registered her best single-game points effort with 22, and also recorded nine field goals on 13 attempts, went 4-for-6 in free throws, and added two rebounds and five steals.

O’Connell and the women’s basketball Hurricanes – 6-2, third in the conference – return to action next weekend with a home-court doubleheader against the UKC Blue Devils on Saturday, Jan. 17, and Sunday, Jan. 18.

Ford, a fifth-year guard/forward from Mississauga, Ontario, put together his best game as a Hurricane on Saturday, helping the Hurricanes begin the second semester with a crucial 74-60 victory over the Crandall University Chargers in Moncton, N.B.

Ford scored 15 points, six field goals on 14 tries, one successful free throw on two attempts, 17 rebounds, one assist, and one steal across 30 minutes of play, showcasing fantastic versatility on both sides of the court.

Ford and the men’s basketball Hurricanes – 3-5, tied for fourth in the conference – return home for their next games, scheduled for next weekend on Saturday, Jan. 17, and Sunday, Jan. 18, against the UKC Blue Devils.
