By Noel Arnason

Abby MacDonald dominated at the net during the opening weekend of ACAA women’s volleyball, while Liam Boswall delivered key performances in goal for the Holland Hurricanes men’s soccer team as both athletes earned Athlete of the Week honours.

Abby MacDonald — Women’s Volleyball

MacDonald made an immediate impact during the Hurricanes’ opening weekend of ACAA regular-season competition, contributing offensively and defensively in six sets across two matches.

The middle blocker recorded 14 kills on 19 attempts, committing just one attacking error for an exceptional .684 hitting percentage. She averaged 2.33 kills per set while adding seven solo blocks and seven service aces.

MacDonald finished the weekend with 28 points, averaging 4.7 points per set. Her ability to generate offence, shut down opposing attacks and put pressure on opponents from the service line made her a difference-maker for the Hurricanes.

With 14 kills, seven solo blocks and seven aces, MacDonald’s all-around performance helped set the tone for Holland College to begin its ACAA campaign.

Liam Boswall — Men’s Soccer

Boswall stepped up in goal for the Hurricanes men’s soccer team, making several key saves to help Holland College earn valuable points in its push for a playoff spot.

One of his biggest moments came against Crandall, when Boswall stopped a penalty kick to secure a much-needed point for the Hurricanes.

He also recorded a clean sheet against the Dalhousie Rams, helping Holland keep its opponents off the scoresheet.

Boswall’s performances provided the Hurricanes with important contributions at a crucial point in their push for the postseason, earning him recognition as the men’s Athlete of the Week.
