Overview of Office 365 Webmail for Students
We are pleased to offer students a new and more feature-rich email experience this year at Holland College. We have moved to a new student email system called Microsoft Office 365, which is a new service that Microsoft just launched in Canada in July 2012. Most people will already be familiar with the Outltook 2010 email interface, so the transition to this new email system should be quite easy and straightforward.
Although email is hosted "in the cloud", the administration, security and management is all controlled by Holland College and there is seamless integration with our current administrative systems. The username and password will essentially be the same ones used to log onto the College network (as well as the other administrative applications such as SAM, etc.) – except that you must use your FULL EMAIL ADDRESS as your username (i.e. firstname.lastname@example.org) instead of simply "studentid" for a username ....
Since this is is a brand new service in Canada, we are starting with the email roll-out for students in September 2012, and we will be evaluating the Sharepoint and Lync services offered by Microsoft throughout the year. We will asses them to see if they could be integrated into the College environment and provide additional services that our students might find useful.
If anyone wishes to go through some tutorials on Office 365, there are many great resources on the Web – simply search Google or YouTube for "Office 365 tutorial" and you will find the answers to any questions you might have.
