Hurricanes defeat Seawolves in Opening Game of the 2012 ACAA Championships

Charlottetown - The Holland Hurricanes women's basketball team came away with a 75-56 win over the UNBSJ Seawolves in the first game of the 2012 ACAA Basketball Championships hosted by Holland College.
The Hurricanes got off to a great start, winning thefirst-quarter 20-13. They built on that lead in the second and headed to the half with a 39-26 lead.

UNBSJ didn't go down without a fight as the clawed back into the game on several occasions. The host Hurricanes fed off of the home-crowd and played with tremendous energy late in the game.
The Hurricanes were led by Rickeia Richardson with 20 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. Richardson took Player of the Game honours for HC. Lindy MacDonald also had a great game despite getting into foul-trouble. She scored 13 points, hauled in 10 rebounds and dished out five assists. Emily Thomas scored 11 and Brittany Leblanc had 10.

For UNBSJ it was Player of the Game Emily Dowling topping UNBSJ scorers with 10 points. Christie Smith had nine while Sarah Trott and Leanne Davis both chipped in with eight.
Holland College out-rebounded UNBSJ 60-47.

The Hurricanes advance to face either the No. 1 seed STU Tommies or the No. 2 seed MSVU Mystics.
