Hurricanes Athletes of the Week
Wednesday, February 22, 2012

Basketball player Jennifer Hinds and Brandon Boyce from volleyball have been named the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending February 19.
The Hurricanes hosted the UNBSJ Seawolves on the weekend and Hinds came up big, delivering two terrific performances in two Hurricanes victories. Saturday, the Hurricanes won 83-66. Jennifer was unstoppable scoring 26 points on 11-16 shooting and also grabbing 16 rebounds for a double-double. In Sunday's 80-75 win she had another great game recording another double-double this time scoring 16 points and hauling down 17 rebounds.
Jennifer is a native of Groveland, Massachusetts and a student in the Foundations program at Holland College.
Boyce takes the male honour for his part in volleyball wins on the weekend. The men's volleyball ‘Canes also defeated UNBSJ, winning 3-2 and 3-1. Boyce led the team in service aces and also played a key role defensively for the Hurricanes.
Head Coach Joe Ryan commented on Brandon's play saying, "When Brandon gets on a role with his serve, he makes it tough on the opposing team and we usually put some points on our side of the scoreboard. Defensively and as a serve receiver, you will not find a better position player in the league. If he plays that role the way he can and is the offensive threat I know he can be, we will have a successful weekend at the Atlantic Championships."
Boyce is a first-year student in the Sport and Leisure Management program. He is from O'Leary, PE.
