Hurricanes Badminton: Finishes First at ACAA Open Hosted by Holland College

The Holland Hurricanes badminton team captured 1st place at ACAA badminton open held at Kensington Intermediate High School on Saturday (Jan 29).

The canes finished first in seven of eleven categories solidifying a first place finish with 94 team points to second place Mount Allison 75, third University Sainte Anne 54, forth University Kings College 25 and last place's Crandall University 14 points.

In men's play canes Jordan Cameron (section 1), Greg Aresnault (section 2) and Robert Paquet (section 3) all finished 1st in their respective men's singles sections. The teams of Greg Arsenault/Greg Mazerolle (section1) and Vaughan MacLeod/Jordan Cameron (section 2) were tops in their respective sections in doubles play.

On the women's side the canes finished 3rd in section 1 with Breanne Hood and had a second place showing with Cathy Nabuurs in section 2 in singles play. On the doubles front the sister duo of Cathy Nabuurs/Michelle Nabuurs finished 4th and Melanie Taylor/Breanne Hood finished 5th.

In mixed doubles the canes were first in two sections with teams of Greg Mazerolle/Cathy Nabuurs (section 2) and Rob Paquet/Michelle Nabuurs (section 3) finishing first while the team of Jordan Cameron/Breanne Hood finished 2nd in section 1.

The canes will play again as they travel to Halifax this weekend (Feb 4 & 5) to compete in another ACAA badminton open hosted by University of Kings College.
