Hurricanes Men's Basketball Opens Second-Half against Crandall
Friday, January 7, 2011

Donathan Moss, Men's Basketball
Charlottetown - The Holland Hurricanes men's basketball team will be in action this weekend when they host the Crandall University Chargers in ACAA basketball action. The Hurricanes enter the weekend at 5-1 while the Chargers are 2-5. The 'Canes are in second place, while the Chargers are tied for the sixth and final playoff spot.
Crandall enters the weekend on a high-note having defeated UNBSJ on Thursday night by a score of 84-67. The Hurricanes should be ready to play as they played four exhibition games over the Christmas break, competing in the Dyrick McDermott Invitational hosted by MSVU over the holidays. The Hurricanes went 2-2 in the tournament, defeating King's and St. Foy and losing to MSVU and a Halifax All-Star team.
The Hurricanes will continue to rely on the play of Donathan Moss in the second-half of the season. Moss has been terrific thus far and the 'Canes need his play to continue. Guards Rob Daley, Matt Morrison and Alex MacLeod also need to play big roles for the team to be successful.
The Hurricanes also welcome Leo Morris to the line-up. Morris, from Nassau, Bahamas has arrived on campus and is eligible for the second semester. A 3-4 player with the ability to get to the basket and play tough defense; Morris should make an immediate impact in the Hurricanes line-up.
Head Coach George Morrison feels good about the weekend, but knows Crandall is not a team to take lightly.
"Crandall is not a deep team, but they've got some veteran players, especially Matt Robertson (formerly of STU) and Kemoy Shaw. They both bring an inside presence and we're lacking some size. They're well coached and I expect them to play us tough for 40-minutes," said Morrison.
He also talked about his team's focus saying, "We need to concentrate on our game. We need to solid defensively, share the ball, look to run the floor when there is an opportunity and knock down open shots."
Saturday night the teams take to the court at 8:00 PM. Sunday they're face-off again at 2:00 PM. Both games are at Colonel Gray High School.
