Holland College Hurricanes Football Club announces training camp dates
Monday, August 23, 2010
Charlottetown, PE - The Holland College Football Club will start its first training camp August 27th at UPEI Turf Field, head coach Tex MacDonald announced today. The first day begins at 4 p.m. with player registration and a light workout, followed by two practices per day on the 28th and 29th; and evening workouts thereafter.
"We already have around 100 players registered to try out for the team; and I expect that by the time we start the training camp, we'll have more. We welcome all athletes between the ages of 18 and 24 who have a passion for football to register and attend the training camp," Coach MacDonald said.
"The coaching staff, which includes Neal Connaughton as defensive coordinator and assistant coaches Sean Hickey, Ian MacDonald, Matt MacDonald, Aaron MacIsaac, and Ben Parsons, are committed to developing a cohesive team that can successfully compete at the college level. Based on the level of registration to date, I am confident that we will excel in our games against the other teams in the AFL, the Dalhousie University Tigers, the UNB-Saint John Seawolves, UNB-Fredericton Red Bombers, and the Moncton Jr. Mustangs."
The training camp will include a controlled scrimmage on September 4th at 12:30 p.m. at the UPEI Turf Field against the UNB-Saint John Seawolves. The public is welcome to attend, free of charge.
"The scrimmage will help us assess our talent levels and will represent a significant challenge for players and coaches alike as we match up against last year's league champions," Coach MacDonald said.
Players can register for the camp on the Holland College website or by calling Greg Gairns at (902) 566-9677.
