The Holland College Welshmen Community Concert Band is comprised of members from all walks of life – from university and college students to music graduates, community members, and many longtime musicians.
As a band, we strive to contribute to the cultural landscape of PEI by providing opportunities for musicians to make music together on a weekly basis, and by presenting public concerts throughout the year.
We welcome young people to join our band, and we seek to provide a musically rich playing experience which emphasizes fine-tuning ensemble skills and playing expressively together.
We are proud of our ensemble, and encourage each other to perform to the best of our abilities in an engaging atmosphere. We have a strong commitment to our weekly practices and our public performances.
The Welshmen serve an important role in the concert band community on P.E.I. We are positioned at a level that appeals to graduating high school students or anyone who is returning to music performance. We generally perform B300 – B400 level pieces in a mixture of several genres and styles.
We practice from 7 – 8:20 p.m. every Tuesday evening at the Florence Simmons Performance Hall on Holland College’s Prince of Wales Campus at 140 Weymouth Street, Charlottetown. Prospective members are welcome to attend a rehearsal and meet the band. Following the concert band rehearsal, the Welshmen jazz band rehearses from 8:30 – 9 p.m.
