Holland College Welshmen Community Band Spring Concert

The concert band will play a variety of selections including the very lively and tuneful Sousa march, Fairest of the Fair; Frank Ticheli’s Sun Dance, a sparkling musical ballet full of light, playful motives and warm melodies; Sinatra, a tribute to the legendary crooner, featuring hits such as Come Fly With Me; Witchcraft; That’s Life and Fly Me to the Moon; Robert Sheldon’s Appalachian Morning, a reflective piece acknowledging Scottish and Irish pioneers with a musical walk through the woods and mountains of the Cumberland Gap and The Ayres of Agincourt by Richard Meyer, an original composition inspired by the famous victory in the 15th century of the English over the French at Agincourt, France.
The jazz band will play selections including Count Bubba’s Revenge, a shuffle by Gordon Goodwin and Jump by Wynton Marsalis. The Outreach Drumline, featuring band students from Charlottetown Rural High School, and the Outreach Music Ensemble, featuring students from the Holland College School of Performing Arts, will also perform.
Under the direction of Mark Parsons, the community and student musicians of the Welshmen Community Band travel to weekly rehearsals in Charlottetown from communities that stretch from as far away as Cardigan, St. Peter’s, Summerside and Miscouche.
There is no charge for admission, but cash donations for the band fund and donations to the Student Union Food Bank will be gratefully received.
