Holland College alumnus Nick Linkletter named Canada’s Best Welder

Charlottetown, PE – Holland College Welding Fabrication alumnus Nick Linkletter earned the title of Canada’s Best Welder at the national CanWELD Expo held in Edmonton late last year.
Linkletter, who graduated from the two-year Welding Fabrication program in the college’s Georgetown Centre in 2015, received n $2,400 ESAB welding machine and a new welding shield for winning first place in the competition. He has since completed his apprenticeship, and is now a Red Seal welder at Diversified Metal Engineering, located in the West Royalty Industrial Park.
Lornie Hughes, program manager for the Welding Fabrication program, said students and staff in the program were delighted to learn of Nick’s accomplishment.
“It’s great to see one of our graduates recognized in this way,” he said. “We are all very proud of him.”
The Welding Fabrication program at Holland College lays a solid foundation with a focus on welding processes; oxy-fuel, shielded metal arc, gas metal arc, and gas tungsten arc welding, as well as some specialized welding processes. The program also provides skills with a wide variety of hand and power tools, and stationary power equipment, such as press break, shear and rolls.
Holland College also offers a one-year Welding Level 1 program on the West Prince Campus in Alberton. Students who successfully completed the Level 1 program may opt to continue their training in the second year of the Welding Fabrication program in Georgetown.
