Charlottetown, PE – Thirty-five students graduated from Holland College’s Advanced Care Paramedicine and Advanced Care Paramedicine Distributed Learning programs in a ceremony at the Tourism and Culinary Centre recently.

Dr. Ronald Stewart, former minister of Health in Nova Scotia, was the guest speaker. During his tenure as minister of health, Dr. Stewart commissioned several reports that formed the foundation for health care reform in the province, and brought out the consolidation of ground ambulance operations under one umbrella, Emergency Health Services. He was medical director for the television show Emergency in the early 1970s. Graduating student Melissa MacLean was the student speaker.

The Advanced Care Paramedicine program prepares primary care paramedics with an advanced scope of practice to meet the needs of the health care system throughout Canada. The program teaches the operational and procedural skills, as well as the skills required to make critical and sound decisions, effective verbal and written communications skills, interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and how to make healthy lifestyle decisions to maintain well-being. The distributed learning model offers practicing Primary Care Paramedics the opportunity to complete most of their ACP studies in a distance delivery format.

Both the Advanced Care Paramedicine and the Advanced Care Paramedicine Distributed Learning programs are accredited by the Canadian Medical Association (CMA).
