Update for week of May 7, 2012

  • Phase 1 mechanical and electrical are nearing completion. The focus in this phase in the coming weeks will be flooring.
  • Phase 2 the new concrete floor for the automotive shop space was poured this week. See pic below.
  • Phase 2 painting is well underway. The washrooms in this area are roughed in and the firewall is near completion.

Update for week of April 23, 2012

  • Millennium Care PEI has relocated to their new space adjacent Foodland. With that relocation complete demolition has begun in their old space and construction crews will then transform that area into classroom space for Holland College.
  • The permanent public washrooms are now completed and are available for use.

Update for week of April 16, 2012

  • The call centre is scheduled to relocate into their new space in the next few days. When this move is completed, the College will have unrestricted access to their existing area for demolition and construction.
  • Phase 1 and 2 construction continues to proceed well.
  • Phase 1 fan coil units installation and hook up are underway
  • Phase 1 ceiling T-bar grid installation has begun.
  • Mechanical and electrical on both Phase 1 and 2 continue to progress well.
  • The tender for the required roof work will be going to tender in the weeks ahead.

Update for week of March 12, 2012

  • The temporary wall separating the main public corridor from the construction area has been removed. The permanent wall is now in place and is painted.
  • Phase 1 exterior windows are in place.
  • Interior painting is well underway in the Phase 1 area.
  • Phase 2 interior partitions continue with metal stud erection and installation of drywall and seam filling following close behind.
  • Mechanical and electrical for both Phase 1 and 2 are progressing well.

Update for week of March 5, 2012

  • Phase 1 drywall, seamfilling, exterior window installation, exterior wall insulation upgrade is planned to be complete by the first week of April.
  • Painting has started in the Phase 1 area.
  • Phase 2 interior partitions are taking shape and there are a significant amount of steel studs up. Installation of drywall has started in Phase 2 area.
  • Mechanical and electrical for both Phase 1 and 2 are progressing well.

Update for week of February 27, 2012

  • Phase 1 Interior Partitions seam filling and sanding is near completion in some areas and priming of paint is scheduled to start shortly.
  • Phase 1 Electrical continues with wire pulling approximately 60% complete and installation of the cable tray is complete. Mechanical work continues as well with this weeks focus remaining on installation of drops and leads which is approximately 55% complete.
  • Access through the main public hallway is open again.
  • Phase 2 Work continues with metal stud framing, drywall installation, mechanical and electrical rough in. Piping for compressed air for the shop spaces is near completion.

Update for week of February 13, 2012

  • Phase 1 Interior Partitions installation of drywall is nearing completion and taping and seam filling continues.
  • Phase 1 Electrical continues to progress well. Wire pulling and tying in continue and installation of the cable tray has begun. Mechanical work continues as well with this weeks focus on installation of drops and leads.
  • Access through the main public hallway has been temporary restricted due to construction of a masonry wall. The retail businesses continue to operate as usual via other entrances.
  • Phase 2 Demolition is underway in the space that was vacated by Home Furnishings at the end of January.
  • Phase 2 Interior Partitions metal stud framing, mechanical and electrical rough in continue.
  • Phase 2 Mechanical air line rough in approximately 40% complete.

Update for week of February 6, 2012

  • Phase 1 Interior Partitions installation of drywall is approximately 66% complete and taping and seam filling continues.
  • Phase 1 Electrical rough in is progressing well. Wire pulling and tying in have started. Mechanical work continues as well with duct rough in approximately 95% complete and drops and leads approximately 20% complete.
  • Phase 2 Interior Partitions metal stud framing, mechanical and electrical are underway.

Update for week of January 30, 2012

  • Phase 1 Interior Partitions metal stud framing is finishing up. Installation of drywall has started and is approximately 50% complete and taping and seam filling has begun.
  • Phase 1 Electrical and Mechanical continue with electrical rough in approximately 95% complete and mechanical rough in about 40% complete.
  • Phase 2 Interior Partitions metal stud framing and Mechanical continue. There is some remaining demolition in the area which is underway as well.

Update for week of January 23, 2012

  • Phase 1 Interior Partitions metal stud framing is near completion. Installation of drywall has started and is approximately 25% complete.
  • Phase 1 Electrical and Mechanical continue with electrical rough in approximately 70% complete and mechanical rough in about 20% complete.
  • Phase 2 Interior Partitions metal stud framing and Mechanical have started.
  • Phase 2 Electrical trade package has closed and is under review.

Update for week of January 9, 2012

  • Phase 1 Interior Partitions metal stud framing is well underway.
  • Phase 1 Electrical and Mechanical roughing in have started.
  • Phase 2 Interior Partitions and Mechanical have been awarded and work on these trade packages will start shortly.
  • Phase 2 Electrical trade package is currently out for pricing.

Update for week of January 3, 2012

  • There was a break in construction activity during Christmas break however things are back in full swing.
  • Demolition for Phase 2 part of the construction project is underway and progressing well.
  • Phase 1 interior partitions and mechanical roughing in have started.
  • Phase 2 Interior Partitions and Mechanical tender packages are currently our for pricing.

Update for week of December 12, 2011

  • The demolition for Phase 1 work is expected to be complete by the end of the week. Demolition for Phase 2 part of the construction project will start next week.
  • The Mechanical and Interior Partitions tenders for Phase 1 have been awarded and work will commence shortly.
  • The Electrical tender for Phase 1 closed on Thursday December 15. A number of bids were received and we look forward to awarding that contract in the next few days.
  • The remaining tender for Phase 1 work is the Interior finishes package which will be available on December 20th.
  • As well tenders will be available on December 20th for Phase 2 Interior Partitions and Mechanical.

Update for week of December 5, 2011

The demolition for Phase 1 work is progressing well and is approximately 80% complete.

Holland College has been fortunate to retain a significant amount of quality materials through the acquisition of the Waterfront Mall, and throughout the demolition phase and have preserved such items for reuse within the facility, as well as other Holland College sites. Holland College does look forward to continuing the strong partnership with Habitat for Humanity for the reuse of other goods and materials.

The Mechanical and Interior Partitions tenders for Phase 1 have closed and will be awarded shortly.

The Electrical tender for Phase 1 has been called and is currently out for pricing.

 

Update for week of November 28, 2011

  1. Demolition of the Phase 1 section is well underway and nearing completion.
  2. Mechanical tender for Phase 1 section of project has been called and will close Tuesday, December 6, 2011.
  3. Electrical tender package for Phase 1 will be available on Friday, December 2nd.
  4. Architectural package for Phase 1 will be available on Friday, December 1st.
  5. During the construction effort there will be business continuance for the Price Chopper, Prince Edward Island Liquor Commission store, Millennium Care, and the Home Furnishings store.  Having said that some of these retail partners will be transitioning during the construction phase to new locations within the facility, and/or to alternate locations within the City of Summerside to serve their client base.
