WVBALL | Hurricanes end home schedule with a pair of victories

The Holland Hurricanes women’s volleyball team picked up a pair of wins over the UKC Blue Devils on the weekend. On Saturday they won in straight sets before taking the victory in four sets on Sunday.
Set scores on Saturday were 26-24, 25-23 and 25-17.
The ‘Canes attack was led by Brittany States who had 13 kills along with seven digs, two blocks, and an ace while Megan LeBlanc added seven kills and Philicia Johnson and Sam Gerbig chipped in with four each.
Gracie Ferguson had a game-high 25 assists while LeBlanc led a balanced defensive effort with 11 digs. Seven other players recorded at least five digs with Sam Gerbig adding nine and Dana Trainor adding eight in the win.
Gerbig and Ferguson also had a good day at the service line recording four and three aces respectively.
On Sunday the ‘Canes won by set scores of 25-22, 25-10, 21-25 and 25-17.
The ‘Canes offensive attack was led by Megan LeBlanc who’s 16 kills on the day gave her 228 on the season which is a new single-season record for the women’s volleyball Hurricanes.
States had another strong hitting game with 13 kills for the second straight game with Johnson chipping in with five kills of her own.
Ferguson had a game high 31 assists in the win while Trainor led the way in digs with 15. Two other players reached double figures in digs with Gerbig and Ferguson adding 11 and ten respectively.
Gerbig led the way at the service line with three aces while Ferguson, States, and LeBlanc all had two each.
The ‘Canes improve to 16-3 on the season and sit in second place in the ACAA while the Blue Devils fall to 6-12 on the year and are in sixth place.
The ‘Canes will hit the road next weekend to take on the Mount Allison Mounties on Saturday and STU Tommies on Sunday in their final two games of the regular season.
