WVBALL | Hurricanes defeat Mounties in mid-week action

The Holland Hurricanes women’s volleyball team defeated the Mount Allison Mounties in four sets at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown on Wednesday night; set scores were 25-23, 25-13, 26-28, and 25-20.
The ‘Canes were led by Sam Gerbig, who had 15 kills and nine digs. She also recorded ten aces, which ties the all-time Hurricanes women’s volleyball single-game record.
Megan LeBlanc added 13 kills and 19 digs in the win while also chipping in with an ace and a block.
Brittany States also reached double figures in kills with ten, along with an ace, two digs, and two blocks.
Gracie Ferguson dished out 42 assists while Dana Trainor and Lauren Moerike both had 17 digs in the win.
The win improves the Hurricanes record to 12-3 on the season, which is good for second place and a two-point lead over the STU Tommies. The Hurricanes trail the MSVU Mystics who lead the conference at 16-0. The Mounties fall to 4-11 on the season, which has them in sixth place in the ACAA.
Next up for the Hurricanes is a pair of weekend games in Church Point, NS where they will visit the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons (0-15). Saturday’s game takes place at 6pm with Sunday’s starting at 11am.
