The Holland Hurricanes will kick off their 2017-18 ACAA regular season this Sunday when they visit the Mount Allison Mounties in Sackville, NB; game time is 11am.

The Hurricanes are positioned at number eleven in the National rankings released by the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association on Tuesday, which is the highest ACAA team ranked in the country.

Last season the ‘Canes were runners-up at the ACAA Championship for the third straight season.  With a strong group of new recruits joining a core of returning players the Hurricanes look to take their season to the next level in 2017-18.

“We’ve had a great preseason with a lot of success in exhibition play,” shared Lori-Beth Dwyer, the Hurricanes head coach.

“We have a strong core group of returning players leading the way and setting the tone for our first year players. Our focus moving into the regular season will be to increase the tempo of our offence, play aggressive defensive and focus on keeping ourselves healthy.”

In 2016-17 the Hurricanes finished in second place in the standings entering the playoffs with an 18-3 record which tied for their best regular season in team history.  They went on to defeat the Mount Allison Mounties in the semi’s before falling to the MSVU Mystics in five sets in the championship game.

This season, the Mounties have opened up with two straight losses, first to the STU Tommies in Fredericton then again at home to the MSVU Mystics.

The Hurricanes women’s volleyball home opener will take place on Sunday, November 12 when they host the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons at the Holland College Centre for Community Engagement at 12pm.

The men’s Hurricanes will kick off their season on Saturday, November 11 when they visit the STU Tommies in Fredericton while their home opener will take place on Saturday, November 18 at the Holland College CCE versus the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons.

The men’s Hurricanes are the 2017 ACAA Champions.
