WSOC | Hurricanes add keeper to roster from Nova Scotia

Cassidy Durston of Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia aims to be between the pipes for the Holland Hurricanes women’s soccer team in 2017 as she has officially been accepted to attend Holland College this fall.
The 5’5” keeper currently trains with the Nova Scotia Canada Games team and is also a member of the Suburban FC club team.
In 2012 Durston won a national silver medal with the Halifax County United where she played through 2014. In 2015 her and her Halifax Dunbrack team went undefeated in their regular season.
“I am proud to be able to say I’ll be wearing the Hurricanes jersey this upcoming season,” shared Durston.
Head coach Kris McKinnon is pleased to add Durston to his 2017 roster.
“We are very excited to add Cassidy to our team. We have traditionally been very strong at the keeper position and with the history of her representing Nova Scotia at club and All-Star competitions her experience will help that tradition continue.”
When Durston was asked what her strengths as a player were she said, “Communication and leadership; I like to build a strong connection with my team and reassure them I will always have their backs. I will bring a strong work ethic and a positive attitude to the ‘Canes next season. I am excited for what 2017 will bring.”
Durston is enrolled in Open Academic Studies as she works towards the Child & Youthcare Worker program.
“I decided to enroll at Holland College after exploring the benefits of the Child & Youthcare Worker program; I feel it would be a perfect fit for me.”
The Hurricanes are the 2016 ACAA Champions after a record of 12-0-2 in conference play. Last season’s conference championship was the fourth in team history; they also took home the title in 2008, 2010 and 2013.
“This season fans can expect to see a hard working team that doesn’t give up. We aim to be have a strong season and represent Holland College with pride”, shared Durston.
The Hurricanes open up their 2017 ACAA regular season on Saturday, September 9 when they visit Truro, Nova Scotia to take on the Dal AC Rams. Their home opener is scheduled for Saturday, September 23 when they host the St. Thomas Tommies at the Terry Fox Sports Complex in Cornwall.
