November 12, 2013
The ACAA women’s soccer champion Holland Hurricanes travelled to Surrey, BC last week for the 2013 CCAA national women’s soccer championship. The Hurricanes lost their first two games versus MacEwen and Algonquin and entered Saturday’s game with the host Kwantlen Polytechnic College for their final game of the tournament.
The Hurricanes opened the scoring when Kristin Hood, the team’s leading scorer this season blasted a shot from outside the top corner of the box in the 4’. The Eagles replied quickly when Rubeen Sidhu tied the game following a corner kick in the 6’ and went ahead in the 15’ and up 3-1 in the 32’ when Kathleen Gratz scored.
In the 51’ the Eagles put the game away when Chelsey Lal shook off a defender in the box and blasted a shot to the bottom right corner of the net to close out the score 4-1.
The Hurricanes went 0-3 for the tournament and 5-4-3 in their regular season en route to winning the 2013 ACAA women’s soccer championship.
