Women’s Hurricanes hockey visit Acadia University this weekend
January 10, 2014
The women’s Hurricanes return to regular season action on Saturday night when they visit Acadia University at 9 pm for Eastern Canadian Collegiate Women’s Hockey League play. The Hurricanes last played on November 24th at home when they were defeated 3-1 by Acadia.
The Hurricanes currently sit at 0-4 on the season while Acadia leads the league with a 4-1-1 record; the University of New Brunswick and Cape Breton University round out the four-team-league.
“I believe this weekend will be challenging. We’ve been off the ice for a while for the holidays but we’ll be training hard over the next week to prepare us for the games this weekend. Hopefully we’ll come out of the weekend with the results the team is looking for”, shared rookie Alex Hicks from Amherst, Nova Scotia.
Although their record shows a winless season thus far the first year team for the Hurricanes have played teams tough, losing twice to UNB (4-2 and 4-3) and twice to Acadia (3-0 and 3-1) so far this season.
“We have a big test this weekend with Acadia. With the holiday break the girls haven’t been on the ice in a little while so we’ll have to shake the rust off quick. We will need a full team effort if we want to be successful; they have an outstanding goaltender which means we will have to score some “ugly” ones if we want to get on the scoreboard. We played them very well last game so we’re hoping we can continue to build on our last game and keep getting better”, shared head coach Morgan Rice.
The Hurricanes also play on Sunday in Acadia at 12:45 pm.
The women’s Hurricanes return home with games versus the UNB Red Blazers on Saturday January 25th at 7:50 pm and Sunday January 26th at 3:20pm; both games are being played at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.
