Women’s Hockey prepares for Acadia with exhibition victory

The Holland Hurricanes women’s hockey team held an exhibition game at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown on Sunday evening versus the Southside Lynx senior women. The Lynx are members of the Island Women’s Hockey League
The Hurricanes, who are a part of the Eastern Canadian Women’s Hockey League with Acadia University, Cape Breton University and the University of New Brunswick are currently 0-2 on the season after back to back road losses to the UNB Red Blazers. The Hurricanes host Acadia this Saturday at 8 pm at the APM Centre in Cornwall and on Sunday at 12:10 pm at The Plex in Slemon Park, Summerside.
On Sunday, Tori McCrindle got her first start of the season in goal for the Hurricanes.
It took over a period and a half for there to be any scoring activity in the game, and it was the Hurricanes that jumped out to the 1-0 lead when Katie Flynn scored with 7:10 remaining in the second period; assists came from Alex Hicks and Melissa French. The Lynx would not shy away however as Laura MacFadyen replied with a goal at 13:56 on the power play; Jenna Glover and Ashley Praught drew assists.
Before the period would end the Hurricanes would regain the lead when Katie Campbell found the back of the net after a pass from Ashley Lunn on the power play. The Hurricanes led 2-1 after two periods.
In the third the Hurricanes Taylor Lynds would put the Hurricanes up 3-1 just 1:35 into the period. When the Hurricanes took three penalties in the last nine minutes of play the Lynx would capitalize on the power play when Sarah Wedge scored with an assist from Jenna Trainor at 14:12. This would be as close as the Lynx would get as the Hurricanes would go on to win 3-1.
