The Hurricanes women’s golf team has announced the addition of Daria Leidenius ahead of the 2016 season.

Leidenius comes from Ponoka, Alberta and was part of the Alberta provincial golf team last year, placing third in provincials. In the 2014-15 season she finished second in the Alberta High School Provincials.

Academically, Leidenius will be enrolled in the Tourism and Travel Management program. On the golf course, she says her ability to execute her shots and recover from missed shots will help her be successful at the collegiate level.

“I bring a positive attitude towards golf and the team in general,” Leidenius said. “I am most confident off the tee and I am a long hitter. I also have a fairly strong mental game which helps me during a round of golf.”

Wanting a platform to focus both on her academics and athletics, Leidenius is happy to have found Holland College.

“The college offers the program I would like to take, when many other universities I looked into did not. Also, the Hurricanes golf team holds a strong record in showing great achievements regionally as well as nationally which was a definite benefit to coming here. Lastly, the staff here have been a huge help which has made the process very easy.”

This October, the PING CCAA National Golf Championships will be hosted by the Holland Hurricanes at Fox Meadow Golf Club. Tryouts for the Varsity Golf Program get underway on August 27 at Dundarave.
