The Hurricanes women’s basketball team continued their pre-season with exhibition games in Fredericton at the Saint Thomas University as part of the Ken Gould Invitational basketball tournament. The Hurricanes joined Durham College (Ontario), King’s College and the Tommies for the event.

On Saturday the ‘Canes took on the Durham College and lost a very close game 68-65. The Hurricanes led at the end of the first three quarters but a strong 24 point fourth quarter by Durham allowed them to pull ahead for the slim victory.

The Hurricanes second game of the day was against the University of King’s College Blue Devils which the ‘Canes went on to win by a score of 62-48. The ‘Canes trailed early when the Blue Devils pulled ahead 16-12 at the end of the first quarter but they quickly turned things around and led the game at half 29-21. The game remained close through three quarters but a strong fourth allowed the Hurricanes to pull ahead for the victory.

The weekend tournament would come to a close on Sunday when the ‘Canes took on the host Saint Thomas Tommies. The Tommies would go ahead early and have a very strong second quarter to lead the game 38-23 at half. The Hurricanes would try to fight back but the Tommies proved too strong on Sunday as they were victorious by a score of 77-63.

The Hurricanes went 1-2 on the weekend and will be right back at it next weekend for their final exhibition games of the season at the ACAA Tip-Off tournament hosted by the Dalhousie Agricultural College in Truro, Nova Scotia.

The Hurricanes open up their season on Saturday, November 2nd when they visit the Dal-AC Rams. Their home opener is on Saturday, October 16th when they host the Mount Saint Vincent Mystics.
