WHKY | Hurricanes to end regular season on the road in Nova Scotia

_MG_1508The Holland College Hurricanes women’s hockey team will be in Wolfville, NS for their final two regular season games against the Acadia Axewomen this weekend.

The Hurricanes enter the weekend having clinched first place with an 11-2-1 (won-lost-tied) record and 23 points to-date. The Axewomen are in third with a 1-10-1 record and 3 points.

The ‘Canes have won five of the six matchups versus Acadia this year picking up wins on January 14, 15, 28 and 29 in Charlottetown and December 3 in Wolfville. The one game that the ‘Canes did not win was a tie in Wolfville on December 4.

Brailyne Jenkins currently leads the league in total points with 14 while also sitting second in goals scored with seven. Alyssa Ferguson and Hailey Matthews are also in the top three in scoring with 13 and 11 points respectively.

Matthews leads the league in goals scored with nine while Sam Higgins and Samantha Woodworth are tied with Ferguson for third with six goals.

Hurricanes goaltenders have had strong seasons this year. Kara Mason sits second in the league with a 5-2-0 record and a goals against average of 1.00 with three shutouts.  Mackenzie Koughan, 7-0-1 on the year with four shutouts, sits third in the league with a goals against average of 1.44.

Game times are set for 9:00 PM on Saturday and 12:45 PM on Sunday.

The Hurricanes will attend the 2017 Atlantic Championships in Fredericton, NB March 31 through April 2 hosted by the University of New Brunswick. Holland College are the defending league champions.
