WHKY | Hurricanes sweep weekend matchups with Acadia

The Holland College Hurricanes women’s hockey team picked up a pair of victories over the Acadia Axewomen on the weekend in Summerside at the Credit Union Place.
On Saturday, the ‘Canes were down 1-0 after one period but would score three times in the second before adding a fourth goal early in the third.
Hailey Matthews scored twice with Kaylee Watts and Sam Woodworth adding single goals to give the ‘Canes the 4-1 victory.
Melissa French had two assists while Alyssa Ferguson, Brailyne Jenkins, Valerie Boswall, and Katie-Lynn Cummiskey each picked up one assist.
Kara Mason earned the victory in goal for Holland College.
On Sunday, the goals came fast and furious with four being scored in a 102 second span.
The ‘Canes would take a 3-2 lead after one period before pulling away in the second and adding a single in the third to take the game 7-3.
Seven different players scored for the ‘Canes with Alison Squires, Hayley Foote, Hope Higginbotham, Alyssa Ferguson, Hailey Matthews, Sam Woodworth, and Brailyne Jenkins credited with goals.
Nine players, Annika Mason, Sam Higgins, Erin Picco, Valerie Boswall, Ferguson, Jenkins, Foote, and Matthews each earned an assist each.
Mackenzie Koughan picked up the victory in goal for the Hurricanes.
The two victories give Holland College a 6-1-1 record this season as they lead the Atlantic standings. Acadia falls to 1-4-1 with the two losses.
The Hurricanes return to the ice on Saturday, January 28 and Sunday, January 29 versus the Axewomen at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown. Game times are 7pm and 11am respectively.
