WHKY | Hurricanes sweep UNB in weekend action to clinch first place

The Holland College Hurricanes women’s hockey team took home a pair of shutout wins over the weekend against the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton.
On Saturday, Sam Higgins and Sam Woodworth scored in the first and second period for the ‘Canes in a 2-0 win. Higgins and Alison Squires recorded assists.
Goalie Kara Mason recorded the shutout win.
On Sunday, the ‘Canes scored twice in just over a minute in the second period and would add another in the third period for a 3-0 win.
Hailey Matthews, Brailyne Jenkins, and Higgins had the goals while Higgins, Hope Higganbotham, Val Boswall, Hayley Foote, and Woodworth picked up assists.
Goalie Mackenzie Koughan recorded the shutout win.
The Hurricanes move to 11-2-1 (won-lost-tied) on the season and have 23 points. UNB are now 7-7-0 with 14 points and sit in second place.
The Hurricanes will finish their regular season this weekend when they visit the Acadia Axewomen in Wolfville, NB on Saturday and Sunday.
UNB will host the Atlantic Championships March 31-April 2 in Fredericton; the Hurricanes are the defending champions.
