WHKY | Hurricanes sweep Acadia Axewomen in weekend matchups

On Saturday the ‘Canes won 3-0 while Sunday’s game was much closer as the ‘Canes took the victory 4-3.
On Saturday, Brailyne Jenkins and Sam Higgins scored in the second period while Alyssa Ferguson added a late goal to ice the game. Ferguson, Kaylee Watts and Sophie Jenkins recorded an assist each in the win.
Kara Mason got the start and recorded the shutout victory in goal for the Hurricanes.
On Sunday, the Axewomen took the lead twice but both times the ‘Canes would answer back; eventually the first period would end tied 2-2.
The ‘Canes would take a 3-2 lead after the second and would extend it to 4-2 before a late goal by the Axewomen finished the scoring.
Katie-Lynn Cummiskey, Alison Squires, Samantha Woodworth, and Alyssa Ferguson recorded a goal each for the Hurricanes with Cummiskey, Squires, Brailyne Jenkins, and Annika Mason each picking up an assist
With the wins, the Hurricanes remain atop the standings with an 8-1-1 record while the Axewomen fall to 1-8-1 and are in third place.
The ‘Canes return to the ice on February 18 and 19 at the Eastlink Centre as they host the UNB Red Blazers.
