WHKY | Hurricanes split weekend games with UNB at home

The Holland College Hurricanes came away with a win and loss against the University of New Brunswick on the weekend at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.
On Saturday, the ‘Canes Kailey Koughan opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game. UNB however, would score three unanswered (two in the second and another in the third) to take the game 3-1.
Brynn Gilmore, Corey O’Brien and Victoria Peterson were the goal scorers for UNB. Hayley Dickinson was the winning goaltender for UNB while Kara Mason suffered the loss for Holland College.
Sunday’s game was a defensive battle until Hailey Matthews scored for the ‘Canes just over three minutes into the third period. Hope Higginbotham picked up an assist on the Matthews goal with a behind-the-back pass into the slot.
Sam Woodworth would add an empty netter in the final seconds for the ‘Canes to give them a 2-0 win.
Mackenzie Koughan picked up the shutout win for the Hurricanes while Kate Northrup was charged with the loss for UNB.
The weekend split gives the ‘Canes a 9-2-1 record and 19 points on the season which has them in first in the league standings. UNB is now 7-5-0 and 14 points on the season which is good for second.
The ‘Canes will be back in action on February 25 and 26 as they travel to Fredericton to take on UNB at the Aitken Centre.
