August 22, 2017
Dunn is a native of New Glasgow, NS and comes to Holland College with great speed and elite playmaking abilities. The 18 year-old played this past season for the Northern Subway Selects of the Nova Scotia Female Midget Hockey League, finishing second in the league in assists and fifth in overall points.
Standing at 5’3, Dunn has the ability to play either wing and has earned a sterling reputation with her tenacious fore-checking.
Head coach Ryan Maxwell is pleased with the new addition to the Hurricanes.
“Katelyn is a solid two-way player. She brings a high compete level and is coming off a very successful season with her midget team. She knows how to win and should be able to step into our lineup and contribute this season.”
Hockey has always been a big part of Dunn’s life but her passion for the pastry arts is what drew her to Holland College.
“I have always had a love for baking and more recently cooking,” Dunn said. “I want to turn my love for baking into a career.”
Having spent many weekends of her childhood in Charlottetown, PEI for hockey tournaments, Dunn has a developed a comfort with the Island.
“The city is beautiful in the winter and has a very welcoming feel to it,” Dunn said. “I am excited to be able to call Charlottetown home come September.”
The women’s hockey Hurricanes finished the regular season at 13-2-1 in 2016-17. They entered Atlantics as the number one seed but were upset in the playoffs to finish third.
