WHKY | Hurricanes hosting Atlantic Championships this weekend in Montague

The 2018 Atlantic Collegiate Women’s Hockey Championship takes place this weekend in Montague, PEI at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre. The Hurricanes open the tournament in game one on Friday at 7:30pm versus the University of New Brunswick.
The ‘Canes enter as the number one seed while UNB enters at number two; the two teams shared identical 11-5-0 regular season records with the Hurricanes winning the season series 5-3.
Prior to the opening game of the tournament both teams will have their league All-Stars announced before the opening faceoff.
The action continues on Saturday with UNB taking on the Acadia Axewomen at 10am.
The final round robin game of the championship takes place on Saturday at 7pm when the ‘Canes host Acadia.
On Sunday the team with the best round-robin record receives a bye to the championship game at 3pm while the second and third place teams will battle in a semi-final game at 9:30am.
All games are played at the Cavendish Farms Wellness Centre in Montague.
During the regular season the Hurricanes held the top three spots in the league scoring race with Samantha Higgins, Samantha Woodworth and Katelyn Dunn scoring 17, 11 and 10 points respectively. UNB’s Kara MacDonald and Acadia’s Hilary Dort rounded out the top five with nine points each.
The Hurricanes also led the league goals-against-average statistic with Mackenzie Koughan registering a 1.60 GAA in ten games played; UNB’s Kate Northrup sat in second with a 1.63 GAA in eight starts and Megan Titcomb of Acadia sat at number three at 1.75.
