WHKY | Hurricanes drop pair of games to UNB in Fredericton

The Holland Hurricanes made the trip to Fredericton, NB on the weekend for a pair of games against the University of New Brunswick.
The ‘Canes entered the weekend with a 3-1 record while UNB entered at 4-0.
Saturday’s game saw UNB open the scoring in the second period before adding two more in the third to pick up the 3-0 victory.
In Sunday’s matchup UNB and the ‘Canes would exchange first period goals before UNB scored in the second on their way to a 2-1 win.
With the victories UNB continues to lead the standings with a 6-0 record while the ‘Canes drop to 3-3 and in second place; Acadia sits in third at 1-7.
Saturday’s game saw Corey O’Brien, Leah LeBlanc and Victoria Peterson score the UNB goals while Kayleigh Robertson picked up the win in goal, her third straight shutout victory this season.
Mackenzie Koughan was the losing goaltender for the Hurricanes.
In Sunday’s game, LeBlanc would open the scoring for UNB while Annika Mason would reply for the ‘Canes late in the first period; the goal was Mason’s third goal of the season.
Jenna Barrett would complete the scoring for UNB in the second.
Kate Northrup earned the victory for UNB in goal while Kara Mason played for the ‘Canes in the loss.
The Hurricanes will now turn their attention to their rematch with UNB on December 2 and 3 on PEI. The December 2 game takes place at 7:30pm at the Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown while Sunday’s game is at 11:30am at the Credit Union Place in Summerside.
Sam Higgins, of the Hurricanes, continues to lead the league scoring race with nine points in five games with Nathalie Laplante (UNB) sitting in second with six points. Kara MacDonald (UNB), Jess Redmond (HC) and Makayla Oatway (UNB) sit in a tie for third with five points each.
Kayleigh Robertson of UNB has been the top goaltender in the league, earning three shutouts in three starts while Mackenzie Koughan has been impressive for the ‘Canes; she has a 2-1 record with two shutouts and a goals-against-average of 1.00.
