WBBALL | Hurricanes drop national tournament game to Humber Hawks

32685376333_91912bf16d_kIt was a disappointing day for the Holland Hurricanes women’s basketball team as they dropped to 0-2 at the CCAA National Women’s Basketball Championship in Edmonton, AB.

The ‘Canes, the fourth ranked team in the tournament, fell to the top seed Humber Hawks 78-66 in the bronze quarter-final game on Friday.

The Hurricanes trailed 22-14, 42-26 and 59-48 at the end of each quarter.

Jayla Verney led all scorers for the Hurricanes with 22 points while Keia Beals (11), Tyleigha Nelson (11), Darcy Zinck (10) and Chelsea Slawter-Wright (10) all had double digit point totals.

The Hurricanes will now play the conference rivals MSVU Mystics in the seventh/eighth game at 5pm AST on Saturday.
