Golfer Tariqah Walikraam and soccer player Evan Forrester have been chosen as the Holland Hurricanes Athletes of the Week for the week ending October 20.

Walikraam, a native of Bermuda, competed at the PING CCAA National Golf Championships last week in Quebec City. Walikraam went on to fire rounds of 79, 82 and 84 in the event to finish in sixth place. The event features the top individuals and teams from the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association. Walikraam was also the top finisher in the event from the ACAA.

Walikraam was given All-Canadian honors by the CCAA at their player banquet on Tuesday prior to the event. She was three-for-three in ACAA wins this year, winning events at Mactaquac, Northumberland Links as well as the ACAA Championships at The Links of Crowbush Cove.

On Saturday Forrester scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory over the Tommies while he added another in the ‘Canes 3-1 victory over the UNBSJ Seawolves on Sunday.

The victories allowed the Hurricanes to advance to the ACAA Championships being hosted in Cornwall this weekend as well as finish in second place in the standings with a 6-1-5 record.

The Hurricanes will take on the University of King’s College Blue Devils this Saturday at 4:45 pm at the Terry Fox Complex; the winner will advance to the ACAA Championship game on Sunday at 2:30 pm.
