VBALL | Hurricanes sweep road matchups in Nova Scotia

January 9, 2017

_MG_1307The Holland College Hurricanes volleyball teams each picked up two wins on the weekend with the men defeating the Université de Sainte-Anne Dragons on both Saturday and Sunday and the women taking down the Dragons on Saturday and the Dal AC Rams on Sunday.

The men’s Hurricanes took all three sets on Saturday by scores of 25-10, 25-15, and 25-12. The large margin of victories allowed the ‘Canes to give some of their bench players extra playing time in the match.

It was much the same on Sunday as the ‘Canes took all three sets. The first set was close as the ‘Canes pulled out a 25-21 victory before having no troubles in the second and third with 25-11 and 25-14 wins.

The ‘Canes move to 6-2 on the season and sit in first place in the ACAA. Holland College has a four-point lead over both the STU Tommies and UNBSJ Seawolves who are 4-2. The Dragons fall to 0-8 on the season and are in fourth place.

The women’s Hurricanes came out flying against the Dragons on Sunday taking the first set 25-9. The Dragons would bounce back in the second set evening the match with a 25-9 win.

The Hurricanes would be back for the third and fourth picking up 25-20 and 25-15 set victories for the 3-1 match win.

On Sunday the women knocked off the Rams in straight sets with victories of 25-23, 25-14, and 25-17.

The ‘Canes move to 10-1 on the season and are in first place in the ACAA; they are four points ahead of the 8-2 Mount Allison Mounties and six points up on the 7-1 MSVU Mystics. Both the Dragons and Rams sit at 1-8 after the weekend action.

The ‘Canes return to the court on Saturday January 14th and Sunday January 15th at the  Holland College Centre for Community Engagement in Charlottetown, PEI.  The women host the Dal AC Rams on Saturday at 12:30pm while the men take on the UNBSJ Seawolves on Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 11:30am.
