VBALL | ‘Canes set for ACAA Championships with semi-final matches versus Dragons/Mounties

The men’s team finished the regular season with an 11-4 record and will be the number one seed in the tournament; they will play the Universite de Sainte-Anne Dragons who finished in fourth place with a 0-14 record.
The ‘Canes took all five regular season matches with the Dragons this year picking up wins in Charlottetown on November 12, 13, and 19 and in Church Point, NS on January 7 and 8.
The ‘Canes led the league in kills per set, hitting percentage, assists per set and points per set during the regular season.
Individually, Gordon Veitch led the ‘Canes in kills averaged per set with 3.05 which was good for second in the conference. Brett Butler finished third in the ACAA with 2.48 kills per set while Tynan Murphy and Kenton Dawkins were seventh and eighth with 2.09 and 2.04 respectively.
Dominique Ryan finished second in the league with 7.74 assists per set, just 0.01 behind Marc Blinn of the STU Tommies.
Game time is set for 4:30 PM on Saturday versus the Dragons.
The winner will face the advancing team from the STU Tommies/UNBSJ Seawolves match (Saturday at 7 PM) in the ACAA Championship game on Sunday at 2:30 PM.
The women’s team finished the regular season with an 18-3 record and will be the number two seed in the tournament. They received a bye to the semi-finals where they will face the Mt. Allison Mounties on Saturday at 1:30 PM.
The Mounties defeated the Universite de Sainte-Anne Dragons in straight sets on Friday in the quarter finals.
The Mounties finished the regular season in third place with a 12-9 record.
The Hurricanes won all three regular season matches against the Mounties picking up a win in Sackville, NB on November 29 and wins in Charlottetown on January 22 and February 1.
The ‘Canes led the ACAA in kills per set while finishing second in assists per set and points per set.
Individually, Alice Marques led the team in kills per set with 2.90 which was good for third in the conference; Megan LeBlanc recorded 2.03 to finish in eighth.
Gracie Ferguson was second in the ACAA with 6.97 assists per set while Dana Trainor finished second in digs per set with 4.55.
The ACAA women’s championship game is set for Sunday at 12pm.
